Summer

There is one word to describe summer on the farm: busy. We are harvesting in both the greenhouses and the fields. Lettuces, tomatoes, peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, swiss chard, carrots and beets are just a few of the vegetables that are ready to be eaten. At the same time we are still seeding for replanting the greenhouses and for a late fall harvest.

The fields are being cultivated and hand hoed to keep the weeds at bay and loosen the soil, and irrigated to keep things growing. It has been very dry and without rain we need to irrigate on a daily basis. Though most people think a hot sunny summer is best, farmers would also like regular rain and cooler night time temperatures to keep veggies and fruits growing.

On the yard the farm animals are in portable pens and eating/mowing the lawn while fertilizing along the way. With so little rain, their paddocks are in need of a break so using the animals as lawn mowers, is good farm management. You just may have to watch where you walk when you come for a visit lol!

Summer is the best time to eat fresh fruits and veggies in Ontario! Our farm market is brimming with fruits and vegetables from out fields like beans, lettuces, cauliflower and broccoli and we have partnered with other Ontario farmers for the things we do not grow like sweet corn, mushrooms, zucchini and onions. We are thankful for our Niagara farmers, there is nothing better than fresh Ontario peaches, coronation grapes, nectarines and plums. We also get melons, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, from great Ontario farmers.

Farm Market hours: Tuesday – Friday 10AM – 6PM, Saturdays 10AM – 5PM.

Farm Yard Visits: 10AM- last entrance around 3:30PM
